Revised general construction planning of Ca Mau City, Ca Mau Province to 2035 and vision to 2050
Ca Mau City is the largest city located in the southernmost Vietnam, which is also the capital of Ca Mau Province. The city has a total land area of 250km² and a total population of approximately 220.000 inhabitants in 2017. Considering the regional relations of the Mekong Delta, Ca Mau is the center of the western sub-region of Hau river, the northern gateway of Ca Mau peninsula, and the southern satellite city of Can Tho city. Its main economic sectors include aquaculture, nitrogen gas, thermal and energy industry. Its ecological assets including interconnected water network and mangroves are also some potentials for both economic and tourism development. Therefore, the revised general planning aims to promote a strong identity for Ca Mau based on three pillars of sustainable development (economy - social - environment) Based on five main clusters: provincial center, energy production, logistics, ecological research – development and eco-tourism, Ca Mau City to 2030 and vision to 2050 could define competitiveness as a “prototype city” in terms of urban resilience, improved living quality and ecological preservation. Based on actual conditions of the city and its regional relations with neighboring cities like Can Tho, Bac Lieu, Rach Gia, Soc Trang, 04 different local urban development scenarios are proposed, leading following urban strategic projects to shape the urban structure in short term, mid term and long term.
