Bamboo conservation and ecological tourism area in Gao Giong Forest, Dong Thap

The bamboo conservation and ecological tourism area is 66.55 ha, located in the center of Gao Giong forest. Considered as “the green lung” of Dong Thap Muoi area, this 1,700 ha cajuput forest also owns the largest bird garden in the region with an area of 40 ha, gathering more than 200 species of birds.
Master planning of a conservation area and development of a bamboo conservation area linked to Gao Giong forest ecotourism area plays a role of protecting natural areas and landscapes from both national and international levels for a long-term conservation of the ecosystem; for other purposes such as scientific research, spiritual life, sightseeing; At the same time, respect and maintain ecological value and historical geography.
Economic investment in the idea of preserving and developing the eco-system of bamboo conservation areas linked to Gao Giong forest ecotourism area plays an important role to develop the tourism industry in the future. This sector is expected to become a key industry for the province, helping to improve and raise people's awareness and raise people's living standards.
The overall planning concept includes 3 main contents:
- Preserving bamboo: associating with solving problems and improving environmental values
- Economic development: especially in the field of tourism economy, contributing to promoting local socio-economic development.
- Tourism development: through which development of education and awareness raising for tourists and the community.
The main highlight of the project is the bamboo collection, supplemented by a system of laboratories, mechanical-chemical-biological research, indoor / outdoor display museums, bamboo training schools, ...
In addition, it is necessary to promote socio-economic development through the development of bamboo related industries such as bamboo seed production, handicrafts, construction materials, etc. The long-term goal is to develop applied products, biological treatment technology, ... bring high and sustainable economic value.
Regarding tourism, the project aims to make bamboo a part of the existing tourism brand of Gao Giong, by linking bamboo tourism experience with horticultural tourism products and local cuisine.
